Wage-rise proposal would not lead to major cost increases, says Jobbik

Budapest, November 3 (MTI) – The radical nationalist Jobbik party has said that it sees a need for a general wage hike in Hungary but this would not have to go hand in hand with any major cost increases.

Jobbik’s deputy leader, Tamas Sneider, said in a statement on Tuesday that instead a declining tax burden and a moderation in contributions would leave more in people’s pockets, stimulating consumption and thereby boosting VAT revenues.

A sustainable real-wage increase would be important from the points of view of the sustainability of the pension system and stemming emigration, he added.

Sneider said Jobbik would only support government measures that put less and less burden on employers, resulting in real-wage rises.
