PM Orbán’s new commissioner will strengthen US-Hungary economic ties

National Economy Minister Márton Nagy has appointed a commissioner to strengthen economic ties with the United States, his ministry said on Thursday.

Economic ties will be strengthened

Bence Katona, who has overseen a number of state-run venture capital initiatives, was tapped for the post of ministerial commissioner for Hungarian-American investment and business ties.

Katona is expected to establish new business connections, explore new investment and financing opportunities, and promote the presence of Hungarian companies on US markets, while working to put the US among the top three investors in Hungary again, the ministry said. The inauguration of President Donald Trump should usher in a “golden age” of Hungarian-American cooperation, it added.

Hungary’s government will work to ease visa regulations, restore a double taxation avoidance treaty and re-launch direct flights between Budapest and the most important US destinations, such as New York and Washington DC, the ministry said.
