The opposition constituencies in next year’s parliamentary election, Tisza party leader Péter Magyar said on Monday, adding that his party was not involved in “any negotiations in the background”.

In a statement, Magyar slammed the “old opposition” for “having assisted and provided legitimacy to Fidesz’s rule” and for “having been unable to present a real alternative”.

Magyar insisted that voters saw Tisza as “the real alternative”, adding that the incumbent government could only be toppled by an “uncorrupted, authentic opposition force”. He said he expected “huge efforts” by both the government and the “old opposition” parties to “blur the line” between Tisza’s “growing community” and failed politicians of the other opposition parties.

Rather than “making background deals” or “pledging positions” to Tisza recruits the party will “work, tour the country and love the homeland … and work even more,” before the election, Magyar said. “After the regime change” Tisza will build a “functional and humane” country, Magyar pledged.
