Three Contracts To Be Signed Before Start Of Paks Upgrade

Budapest, July 7 (MTI) – Hungary should still sign three contracts, mainly of a technical nature, with Russia before the upgrade of the Paks nuclear power plant can begin, government commissioner Attila Aszodi said in national daily Nepszava on Monday.

The contracts affect planning, construction and launch of the new blocks; the delivery and disposal of nuclear fuel; and the operation and upkeep of the blocks, he said.

A group of Hungarian experts are drafting the agreements and will discuss them with representatives of Russia’s Rosatom.

Hungary signed an intergovernmental agreement with Russia in January on the construction of the two blocks at its sole nuclear power plant. Russia is providing 10 billion euros in credit for the investment.
