Thousand new foreign students to start their studies at Debrecen University from September

Budapest, August 24 (MTI) – From September, a thousand new students will arrive at Hungary’s Debrecen University, in the east of the country, thereby tripling the number of students from abroad studying at the institution, public television reported on Monday.
The head of the university’s international coordination centre, Attila Jenei, told the M1 channel that students from 72 countries would be taking up their studies, many from Nigeria, Iran, the UK, South Korea and Japan. They can choose from 40 courses taught in English. The most popular are medicine, dentistry and pharmacology, he added.
Tuition fees paid by the foreign students cover 10 percent of the institution’s budget. Furthermore, their presence boosts income both for university staff and the city itself, Jenei said.
