Diplomatic conflict between Ukraine and Hungary intensifies

The Hungarian embassy in Kyiv reacted to the accusations of Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk. Vereshchuk had previously said that the Hungarian government did not support sanctions against Russia. The Ukrainian deputy prime minister assumes that Russia promised that Hungary would get Transcarpathia back after the war. The embassy said these were baseless accusations.
Ukrainian criticism of Hungary
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk has sharply criticised Hungary on her Facebook page. Her problem is that Hungary does not support many measures attacking Russia, writes 24.hu.
Thus, Hungary does not take an open position against Russia.
“They do not support sanctions. Not only do they not hand over weapons, they also do not allow arms shipments from other countries to pass through their territory. In fact, they say no to everything. Slowly, the official rhetoric of Budapest will be openly pro-Russian,” Vereshchuk writes. Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister closes her post as follows:
“Or maybe you want our Transcarpathia? What do they want? Cheap Russian gas? Or maybe our Transcarpathia?”
The Embassy of Hungary in Kyiv reacted
Vereshchuk addressed the post to the Hungarian leadership. It is important to emphasise that she did not criticise Hungary. This was more widely reported in the Russian press than in Hungary. However, more and more people are writing about the case in Hungary, especially after the response of the Hungarian embassy in Kyiv, writes index.hu.
According to the Hungarian Embassy in Kyiv, her statement aimed at the Prime Minister is an unfounded and downright offensive assumption.
The embassy also reacted on their social media site. “The Deputy Prime Minister sums up what Hungary and its government are not doing for Ukraine in the current situation. Its conclusions are not only completely false and unfounded but downright offensive. Unfortunately, these accusations have long been successfully planted. It is particularly sad that these speculations include, not for the first time, Transcarpathia and the Hungarians living there,” reads their social media site.
They believe that the Hungarian state is doing a lot for Ukraine.
They listed, for example, how many refugees Hungary would receive, how it will provide Ukraine with energy supplies, and provide Ukraine with financial and material assistance.
