Tanker accident causes oil spill, death of driver in Central Hungary

Budapest, September 21 (MTI) – Oil started spilling from a tanker truck which slipped off the road into a ditch near Szazhalombatta, central Hungary, on Monday morning, a spokesman of the local disaster management agency said.

The driver of the tanker died in the accident, Attila Csampai told MTI.

The accident happened on the offslip connecting highway 6 with motorway M6. Some 200-300 litres of oil may have spilled onto the road and into the ditch. Environmental experts are investigating whether any pollution has been caused by the accident and how the cleanup should be organised, Csampai said.

The overturned tanker has been stabilised by local fire fighters and disaster management officers and the crude oil is being transferred into another tanker truck, he added.
