Szijjarto protests Croatia’s transporting migrants to Hungary border – Photos from the Croatian-Hungarian border

Belgrade, September 18 (MTI) – Croatia’s authorities provide buses to transport migrants to the Hungarian border without any registration, violating European Union regulations, Peter Szijjarto, the Hungarian foreign minister, said on Friday.
Speaking after talks with Serbian leaders in Belgrade, Szijjarto denied allegations that the Hungarian and Croatian interior ministers had agreed on the matter. “That is a lie, we have never made such agreement,” he insisted.
“We have asked the Croatian foreign ministry to stop the Croatian government and police from spreading that lie,” Szijjarto said.
The Hungarian police and military have started building a fence in the Beremend area to stem illegal migration, the minister said.
Later in the day, Szijjarto consulted Vesna Pusic, his Croatian counterpart, by phone, and asked for an explanation for Croatia’s transporting thousands of unregistered migrants to the Hungarian border.
According to a statement from the foreign ministry, Pusic referred to “an alleged agreement between the interior ministers and the police” at which Szijjarto replied that there was no such accord.
Szijjarto instructed Hungary’s ambassador to Croatia to hand over a protest note to the Croatian foreign ministry, condemning Croatia’s “conduct violating European law”.
17:55 – Some 1,500 migrants cross Croatia-Hungary border
So far, about 1,500 migrants have entered Hungary from Croatia by Friday afternoon, MTI’s correspondent reported from the site.
The migrants are still arriving at the border zone near Beremend on buses provided by the Croatian authorities. They walk across the border and take Hungarian buses to Siklos. The entrants are counted and asked to indicate their nationality.
The Hungarian side of the border is lined with police and soldiers; no disturbances have been reported.
Charity organisations are also at the site, distributing food and water.
