Szijjarto discusses current issues, bilateral ties in Egypt

Cairo (MTI) – The Hungarian foreign minister discussed with his Egyptian counterpart current issues and bilateral relations during an official visit to Cairo on Saturday.

Peter Szijjarto told a press conference held together with Sameh Shoukry after their talks that his visit served partly to prepare the Hungarian prime minister’s visit to Egypt foreseeably in the first quarter of 2016.

He said they discussed the issue of a Russian plane that crashed in Egypt a week ago.

Szijjarto said Hungary was keeping close tabs on developments in Egypt, adding that his college reassured him that the country had taken measures to guarantee the safety of tourists.

He said that Hungary will not change in its travel advisory Egypt’s security rating unless information is obtained that would necessitate otherwise.

In connection with bilateral economic ties, Szijjarto told MTI that he regarded it a huge success that Egypt has become Hungary’s number one export market not only in the Arab world but in Africa, too.

Hungary has boosted its exports to Egypt by 18 percent in the first eight months of 2015, he said.

Szijjarto noted bilateral projects that include talks on delivering Hungarian rail carriages to Egypt, livestock exports, as well as cooperation in medicine and health care.

Hungary will also participate in training Egyptian nuclear experts, he added.
