Szijjarto accuses Ponta of “constantly smearing” Hungary

Budapest, September 21 (MTI) – Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Monday said it was “the shame of Europe” that Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, “who is the subject of a criminal investigation”, is “constantly lying about and smearing a neighbouring country”.

Szijjarto’s remarks came after Ponta said earlier in the day that he stands by his earlier comments denouncing Hungary’s decision to erect a fence on its border with Romania and that its handling of the migrant crisis is “non-European and a disgrace for Europe”.

Szijjarto said Hungary observes all European laws in its handling of the migrant crisis, adding that the country is in a difficult position because “two other EU member states deliberately and demonstratively violate EU laws”. The minister said Greece “is incapable of protecting its borders” while Croatia “floods Hungary with thousands of migrants without registering them”.
