State, Budapest, Olympics Committee sign cooperation pact for Olympic bid

Budapest, December 7 (MTI) – The Hungarian state, the Municipality of Budapest and the Hungarian Olympics Committee on Monday signed an agreement of cooperation in Budapest’s bid for hosting the 2024 Olympic Games.
The agreement details the institutional framework for the bid to be submitted including a committee of sportspeople to be set up, a body of Olympic trustees and a forum for consultations.
Mayor of Budapest Istvan Tarlos called for political cooperation on the bid and said he regards it with “cautious optimism”.
Balazs Furjes, the government commissioner for the Olympic bid, said Budapest is a strong bidder which has a chance to win. He added that Budapest will propose to the International Olympic Committee its contribution to making the Agenda 2020 reform package for frugal Olympic organisation work.
The Olympic committees of 16 countries in central and southern Europe expressed support for Budapest’s bid to host the Games at a general meeting of the European Olympic Committee in November. Budapest is competing against Los Angeles, Rome and Paris. The International Olympic Committee will pick the host at a congress in September 2017.
