The southern part of Metro Line 3 in Budapest soon to be inaugurated

In five months the reconstruction works on the southern part of metro line M3 will be completed and the public will be able to use the five new stations.

Magyar Építők reported that from Kőbánya-Kispest to Népliget all the stations had been wholly renovated alongside with the checking regions and by replacing the technological and electrical equipment of the underground.

BKK (Centre of Budapest Transportation) will do the necessary test runs before opening the new part of the line.

The new part is expected to open on October 22. Between Lehet Square and Nagyvárad Square, the still ongoing project has shown significant improvement. The global outbreak of COVID 19 did not affect the construction on metro line 3; demolition work was done on the middle section of the line. At the beginning of March, the upgrading of the two middle section stations has begun as well as reconstructions of the section between the Kőbánya and Kispest stations. The wall and ceiling coverages have already been torn down, and the structure in the incline was broken down.

The cabins have been stripped off of their characteristic furnishings, advertisements and info boards. Architectural and mechanical demolition work was also done on operating areas which will not disturb the safety of the metro traffic.
