Here’s how your student ID can save you lots of money this summer in Hungary

Here’s why keeping your student ID handy during the summer can save you tens of thousands of forints.

Benefits extend beyond graduation

The student ID isn’t just a school-related credential—it’s also a discount card that continues to offer perks even after your studies officially end. As Eduline reports, the student ID remains valid for recent high school graduates until 31 October 2025. That means it’s still very useful to keep with you through the summer. Beyond transportation discounts, it can help you save in less obvious areas, like festivals, restaurants, and public baths.

Summer festivals

More and more summer festivals are offering student discounts, providing significant savings opportunities. The Sziget Festival, for example, offers reduced-price passes for those with a valid student ID or proof of school enrollment. Discounts can even apply to those whose student status is no longer active. Other events—such as the Strand Festival, EFOTT, Campus, and SZIN—also feature discounted ticket categories, sometimes offering savings of several thousand forints.

Culture, baths, and public transit

Cultural venues also generously support students with discounts—many museums, movie theaters, and libraries offer up to 50% off admission for student ID holders. In some state-run museums, students can enjoy one free admission day per month. And these perks aren’t limited to Budapest; it’s worth asking about discounts in rural areas too. Students can also access numerous public bathing facilities at reduced rates: many of Budapest’s spas, pools, and beaches participate in programs offering half-price services, especially for those with valid student passes in the BudapestGo app.

You’d be surprised how many deals are out there…

The advantages of a student ID go far beyond culture and entertainment—fitness enthusiasts can benefit too. Many gyms and sports facilities offer student discounts on memberships and day passes. Dining also plays a role: an increasing number of eateries, from local diners in smaller towns to trendy bistros in Budapest—and even some international chains—are participating in student-friendly discount programs, offering 5–30% off.

Finally, it’s worth noting that your student ID is useful even outside Hungary. When travelling abroad, it can get you discounted or even free admission to many museums and attractions. In France, for instance, anyone under 26 can enter many iconic places like the Louvre for free. So wherever you’re headed this summer, be sure to bring your student ID along.
