Russia is preparing a provocation against Hungary, Ukrainian military expert says

Russia is preparing for a provocation against Hungary, the military program director of the Razumkov Centre said on Thursday.

According to KárpátHír, there is a high possibility that Russia will commit provocations in Moldova, Transnistria, and Hungary on May 9 or even before. Mikola Szungorovszkij, the military program director of the Razumkov Centre, said that Russian intelligence services are behind the relevant operations.

“They will not conduct a direct armed attack, but they will use diversion groups and then say they had not been there,”

he added. He stated that Russia had enough time to organise such groups.

Meanwhile, the number of Ukrainian refugees coming to Hungary is still high, and it is expected to be higher after the first Russian missile attack against the Transcarpathian Volin. More than 150 thousand Hungarians live in the region.

According to the Hungarian News Agency, a total of 5,699 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Thursday, while another 6,508 people from Ukraine crossed from Romania, the national police headquarters said.

The police issued temporary residence permits valid for thirty days to 476 people, the police website said on Friday. Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within thirty days to apply for permanent documents, it added.

Budapest police received 551 refugees, 156 children among them, by train, according to the municipal police website.
