President Áder and foreign minister to represent Hungary at the 71st UN general assembly

New York, September 18 (MTI) – President János Áder and Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó are to represent Hungary at the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York next week.
Áder will arrive in New York on Tuesday and take part in the UN Secretary-General’s meeting the following day. Ratification of the Paris climate accord will be on the agenda, and in the afternoon Áder will make a speech at a meeting of the Presidential Water Council. He will also take part in bilateral meetings in the UN headquarters.
Áder will have talks with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, South African President Jacob Zuma, World Bank chief Jim Yong Kim, and he will also meet UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the evening before returning back to Hungary.
Péter Szijjártó will lead the Hungarian delegation and participate in the general debate of the General Assembly.
On Monday, the foreign minister will hold several high-level meetings and address the session on migration. He will jointly chair a panel on migration together with the president of Malta. Also on Monday, Szijjártó will address the debate of an international conference on migration and refugees and attend a meeting of European Union foreign ministers.
From Tuesday on, Szijjártó is scheduled to meet counterparts from Kosovo, Tunisia, Honduras, Sudan, Algeria, El-Salvador, Ivory Coast, Mongolia, Vietnam, Australia, Singapore, Lebanon and Iran. On Friday he will meet his Russian counterpart.
Energy affairs will also be a subject on the agenda of meetings. On Tuesday, the Hungarian minister will have talks with Amos Hochstein, special envoy for international energy affairs leading the United States Bureau of Energy Resources. On Thursday, he will negotiate with representatives of the US-Hungary Business Council and meet the heads of leading investors.
On Wednesday, Szijjártó will meet the managing director of the American Jewish Committee as well as representatives of the coalition of American Jewish organisations.
In the days following the UN General Assembly, Szijjártó will be the guest of an international conference held in Washington, DC, concerning itself with Europe and the bloc’s future. The minister will meet heads of companies considering investing in Hungary and will participate in a meeting of the US-Hungary Business Council.
