VIDEOS: Popular Budapest festivals, Liszt Fest, Bartók Spring, will receive increased state support

Support for the cultural festivals Bartók Spring International Arts Weeks and Liszt Fest International Cultural Festival organised by Müpa Budapest will be increased to an annual 2.6 billion forints between 2027 and 2030, the state secretary for cultural relations said on Tuesday.

Anita Kiss-Hegyi told a press conference organised jointly by Müpa and the ministry of culture and innovation that Müpa was a venue where audiences have access in a single place to a diverse range of quality productions recognised both in Hungary and abroad.

The government has decided to strengthen the international prestige of Bartók Spring and Liszt Fest to increase their visibility, she added.

The two cultural festivals received 1.75 billion forints each year since 2021, but the higher financing is necessary to maintain the top quality of programming, she said. The support is also an investment with positive knock-on effects for the economy, she added.
