Just on the outskirts of Budapest the Kincsem horse race track holds an annual race on New Years Eve. There is a fine line between the high class expectations of horse races, and the relaxed nature of the holiday. The smells of hot wine lingers in the crowd as couples and groups of friends cheer for their favourite duo of horse and jockey.

Although cold, all the spectators are in high spirits regardless of won or lost bets. It’s great being in a place where either laugher fills the air, or cheering. As the sun sets the competitors are a spectacle to behold. The breath of the horses can be seen under the flood lights as they fight off the cold by running faster to stay warm.

Definitely a place to check out for 2016 if you didn’t this year.
