Parliamentary Speaker Kover: Katyn Massacre Historic Memento of Political Privy

Budapest, September 24 (MTI) – Beyond the mass murders, the Katyn massacre represents a historic memento to political cynicism and complicity, parliamentary speaker Laszlo Kover said today at the opening of an exhibition about the 1940 massacre of Polish officers by Soviet secret police.
Kover said the exhibition in Budapest aimed also to strengthen the thousand-year shared historical ties between Hungary and Poland.
He noted that on Wednesday the Hungarian and Polish parliaments would approve a provision marking the 40th anniversary of the death of Jozsef Antall Sr who played a key role in Polish refugees finding shelter in Hungary and the 70th anniversary of the martyr death of Henryk Slawik, helped save over 30,000 Polish refugees in WW2.
Deputy speaker of the Polish Senate Maria Panczyk-Pozdziej said the message of the exhibition was that people would never again want to live through a war like this.
