Hungarian government is requesting more and more data from Facebook

Compared with the half year earlier, some Hungarian governmental body inquired twice as many users’ data in the last 6 months of 2014, hvg.hu says.

According to the transparency report of Facebook, which contains recent data, the Hungarian authorities were interested in 78 Facebook users in the first semester, and 167 in the second. The network site at least partially fulfilled the third of requests.

The upturn of the Hungarian governmental bodies’ Facebook- inquiry is continuous: in the first half of 2013 24, the second 51 users’ data were requested by the Hungarian authorities. On this basis, the annual growth is more than threefold.

According to hvg.hu, the number of government requests for data reduced in several western countries, besides the USA and the UK, France, Germany and Italy also requested less data in the second half of the year than the previous period.

The requested (and granted) information can concern to the user, its location according to IP address and may include the sent and received messages.
