Orbán government names minister responsible for EU affairs

János Bóka, the state secretary for European Union affairs of the justice ministry, has been tapped as minister for EU affairs from August 1, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office said on Monday.
Last week Judit Varga, Minister of Justice of Hungary resigns, details HERE. Gergely Gulyás said that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had agreed with Bence Tuzson, the future Minister of Justice, that he would lead a “clean” justice ministry, and therefore Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had entrusted the management of EU affairs to János Bóka, the Minister of State for Justice, who will lead this area as a minister.
Among other EU affairs, Boka will be responsible for cooperation with Hungary’s allies and other ministries during Hungary’s preparation for taking over the rotating presidency in the second half of 2024, Gergely Gulyás said.
PM Viktor Orbán will propose to President Katalin Novák to appoint Bóka from August 1, he added.
As we wrote on Friday, Orbán said in Brussels that the chance of leaders of EU member states accepting the European Commission’s budget amendment proposals was close to zero, details HERE.
