Opposition pledges to bolster health care, shorten waiting lists

Opposition candidates pledged to set up an independent health ministry, bolster the prestige of health-care workers and to shorten waiting lists at a joint press conference of Jobbik and Párbeszéd on Wednesday.

György László Lukács, the deputy leader of Jobbik, said health-care services should be accessible for people locally, and to shorten waiting lists. The sector should receive an independent health-care ministry, György said. The employee status of health-care workers, changes to which have caused resignations in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, should be reviewed and changed so workers are motivated to stay in the profession, he said.

Dávid Dorosz of Párbeszéd cited lagging investments into a health-care centre in Fót, near Budapest, which “the Fidesz representative of the town promised two election cycles ago, but the cornerstone was only laid a few days ago.”
