Official: Government makes key deals with Budapest mayor
The government is reaching agreements with the Budapest mayor that serve the interests of the capital’s residents, the state secretary for Budapest and metropolitan agglomeration development said on Saturday.
In a statement, Balázs Fürjes noted that he and Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, held talks with Gergely Karácsony and members of his staff on two occasions this week. The talks focused on matters like health care and waste collection, he said.
Concerning health care, the two sides agreed on measures to reduce wait times for CT and MRI scans to a maximum of seven days. Patients will have to be notified of the results within three days, he said, adding that the government will allocate 2 billion forints (EUR 6.0m) towards this measure.
The government has also agreed to provide 10 billion forints this year towards improving health services in the capital, Fürjes said.
As regards waste collection, he said the government representatives had told the mayor that the government intends to preserve the uniform nationwide waste management system, and that the company in charge of it had no outstanding debts to Budapest’s public works company FKF.
They also agreed that if FKF and the company in charge of Hungary’s waste management had any disagreements over the system, they would have to discuss them together with the government and the metropolitan council, Furjes said.
