Guest nights rise in June in Hungary

Guest nights at commercial and private tourism accommodations in Hungary rose 5.1pc to 4,403,000 in June from the same period a year earlier, supported by the long Pentecost weekend, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Tuesday show.
The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers increased 4.1pc to 2,245,000, while guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose 6.1pc to 2,158,000. Revenue of commercial accommodations, which include hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, camp sites, resorts and hostels, climbed 9.8pc to HUF 107.6bn.

A total of 32,737 tourism accommodations hosted guests in June, including 29,813 private and other accommodations. For the period January-June, the number of guest nights increased 4.5pc to 18,920,000 from the same period a year earlier. The number spent by domestic travellers was up 1.3pc at 8,711,000 and the guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose 7.1pc to 10,209,000.
In a separate statement, the National Economy Ministry said the fresh data reinforced the positive trend in the tourism sector. It noted that HUF 61bn of commercial accomodations revenue in June was registered at destinations other than the capital.
