Hungarian high-profile delegation travels to Chad, where PM Orbán wanted to send Hungarian soldiers

Zsolt Németh, the head of parliament’s foreign affairs committee, and Eduárd László Máthé, ministerial commissioner for coordinating Hungarian missions in the Sub-Saharan region, are in Chad for talks aimed to strengthen diplomatic ties, inter-parliamentary cooperation and a strategic partnership, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The ministry noted that Hungary and Chad signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2024, adding that closer diplomatic and parliamentary cooperation could contribute to stability in the region around Chad. During their talks, the parties emphasised that bilateral ties rested on “mutual respect and shared strategic interests”, it added.
The statement also referred to Sahel region’s strategic significance for Hungary, adding that the Hungarian government was working to handle regional problems such as terrorism, migration, and humanitarian crises in the lands where those problems were generated, “thus increasing the security of that region, the European Union, and Hungary”.
