National Bank issues new forint coin after Hungarian astronaut’s successful mission

The National Bank of Hungary (NBH) will issue a commemorative coin honouring the Hungarian to Orbit (HUNOR) programme in the autumn, the central bank said on Wednesday, a day after Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu returned to Earth following a research mission aboard the International Space Station.

The NBH will issue the coin in silver and non-ferrous metal versions with face values of 20,000 forints and 3,000 forints, respectively. The obverse of the coin will depict the meeting of Earth and space along with the miracle stag, a figure from Hungarian mythology, in the form of a constellation. The reverse will feature Kapu and his alternate Gyula Csérenyi in profile.
