More migrants arriving despite protective measures

Budapest, March 4 (MTI) – The number of migrants arriving in Hungary has been increasing despite serious protective measures, government spokesman Zoltán Kovács said on Thursday.

Around 3,000 migrants arrived in two months this year and based on this, there is no reason for optimism, he told public news channel M1. Commenting on the wave of migrants affecting Europe, he said even if measures to slow down migration are introduced now, several months will pass before real changes can be noticed.

In response to a question about Romanian President Klaus Iohannis revoking a high Romanian state award from MEP László Tőkés, Kovács said it is strange that this could happen in the 21st century to such an emblematic public personality for both Romanians and Hungarians. He added that it was unfortunate that someone should be stripped of an award that is important not only to the Hungarians but also to Romanians.
