Sensational: Michael Jackson’s original handprint now on display in Budapest!

Fans of the King of Pop have a new reason to visit Madame Tussauds Budapest: a rare and original handprint of Michael Jackson, taken in 1989 during the creation of his wax figure, is now on display at the popular Dorottya Street attraction.

The handprint, which was made in Los Angeles during a multi-hour session with Madame Tussauds sculptors, has arrived in Hungary and will remain a permanent part of the Budapest collection, Turizmus.com reports. It was unveiled on 25 June, marking the 16th anniversary of the artist’s death.

Michael Jackson, who passed away on 25 June 2009, is one of the most represented celebrities in Madame Tussauds museums worldwide. In fact, only Queen Elizabeth II has had more wax figures created of her, TurizmusOnline writes.

As with many high-profile stars, Jackson took part in the figure-making process himself, undergoing detailed physical measurements (including height, build, eye spacing, and hair colour) to ensure the most accurate likeness. Over the years, he posed twice for the museum’s team.

The 1989 handprint was created during one of these sessions and is now exhibited on a custom display stand next to his wax figure in the music room at Madame Tussauds Budapest.

A fan favourite since day one

Since opening, Madame Tussauds Budapest has conducted regular surveys to ask visitors which celebrities they would most like to see. Michael Jackson consistently ranks at the top, with both Hungarian and international guests naming him as a favourite.

Originally, the Budapest location showcased a borrowed figure from Vienna, which quickly became one of the exhibition’s most popular attractions. Due to overwhelming demand, a permanent wax figure of Jackson was later added.

Today, Jackson’s likeness shares the spotlight with global icons such as Jennifer Lopez, Freddie Mercury, Beyoncé, and Rihanna.
