Mayor’s office says Fischer has no permit to hold impromptu concert

Budapest, May 6 (MTI) – Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra have no permit to hold an impromptu concert on Saturday in central Budapest’s Vorosmarty Square, the mayor’s office said.
The orchestra has not requested authorisation to reserve a public area, the mayoral communications office said in a statement, commenting on a report by commercial broadcaster RTL Klub.
As we wrote, the Municipal Assembly decided at the end of April to reduce the funding available to the world-celebrated orchestra by 200 million forints (EUR 940,000) to 60 million. The orchestra, it notes, is not a municipal institution.
Fischer then complained in a video message that the decision, coming in the middle of the season, had been made without preliminary coordination. He added that a flashmob would be held in protest.
