Section of busy party tram line 4–6 to be renovated soon in Budapest

According to the Budapest Transport Company (BKV), tram track renovation will begin on the busy 4–6 tram line in Budapest on 21 June, coinciding with the start of the summer school holidays in Hungary. The affected section is between Jászai Mari Square and Tátra Street, one of the busiest parts of the 4–6 route. The work will continue until the end of August and will include the renovation of 415 metres of tram track, index.hu reported.

BKV highlighted that a particularly important part of the project is the construction of a new so-called rail encasement track between the turnout at Jászai Mari Square and Tátra Street. This modern technology reduces noise and vibration by surrounding the rails with an elastic material that helps minimise the disturbances caused by trams.

They added that thanks to the reduction in noise and vibration, the passenger area of the trams will become quieter and more comfortable. Furthermore, once the renovation is complete, the current speed restriction on this section will be lifted, allowing trams to travel at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

However, the project will result in major changes to the public transport system. Between 21 June and early August, tram replacement buses will operate between Nyugati Square and Széll Kálmán Square stations. In addition, pedestrians should expect restrictions around the Pest bridgehead of Margaret Bridge and Nyugati Square (Nyugati railway station).
