Lakes near Budapest where you can hide from stress, warmth, and crowds – Gyömrő – photos
Cool water, low prices, green grass, the beauty of the lake, and many more amazing programs. You do not have to travel to Lake Balaton for these, with Gyömrő being just 30 km away from Budapest.
During the summer warmth, a cool lake can be a place to get away from the city and enjoy the beauties of nature. Many proved that the more one spends in nature, the healthier they become, Femina reported.

Lake Balaton or Lake Velence can be a good decision, but they are far from Budapest. So, if you live or spend your holiday in the city, a closer destination might be better in helping you abandon stress and the crowds of Budapest for a while.
The lake spa of Gyömrő is surrounded by beautiful trees and has a very good beach, where the water is cool, and many small restaurants are awaiting visitors. Furthermore, once a year, the Celebration of Romanticism is held in the town.

Regarding the history of the lake, Aurél Gyömrőy built a mill and a brick factory in 1893. That is the place where, in the 1920s, mineral water was discovered, transforming the plant into a flourishing lake. Thanks to Dr Dezső Okolicsányi-Kuthy, a climatologist, pulmonologist, and founder of the lung sanatorium of Budakeszi, a beach was created near the lake in the 1920s.
In the 1930s, Gyömrő became a destination for all who wanted to escape from Budapest and spend some time in nature for a low price. They created a 50m long “pool” in the lake for swimmers and one more for those who wanted to play water polo. There were restaurants and confectioneries around the lake, and since the place was very popular, the state railways even built a station near it for the bathers. As a result, each summer, the number of people living in Gyömrő increased by 3,000 in the late ’30s and the early ’40s.
WWII broke the development detailed above, and during the Socialist era, even bathing became forbidden in the lake. The revival started in the 2000s when the whole place was rebuilt, and today, it welcomes its guests with many attractive sports, cultural, and gastronomy programs.

Today, the temperature of the water is 25 ºC, and HERE you can find a live stream about what is happening currently around the lake. If you want to see more photos, click HERE.
