Jobbik calls on govt to set up schedule for public sector overhaul

Budapest, December 30 (MTI) – The radical nationalist Jobbik party on Wednesday said that it would support the government’s planned restructuring of the public sector if the overhaul is preceded by an assessment of public sector tasks and followed by a detailed schedule for the restructure.

Jobbik deputy leader Janos Volner told a press conference that his party “sees no guarantee” that the overhaul announced by government office chief Janos Lazar involving the layoff of 30 percent of public sector workers will yield the desired results.

So far all of the government’s attempts at cutting red tape have been unsuccessful, Volner said, citing the centralisation of schools and hospitals as examples.

Volner said the government should prepare a detailed schedule for the restructure because when it originally attempted to reorganise the public sector in 2010, it failed to clarify its objectives.
