Travel alert: IT system glitch causes delays at Hungarian border crossings and airports

A nationwide IT system malfunction is currently affecting road border crossings as well as Hungary’s two major international airports (Budapest Liszt Ferenc and Debrecen International), the national police reported on Saturday.
Delays at airports and border crossings
According to police.hu, the issue began around 11:30 AM on 12 July 2025, causing disruptions at border checkpoints and passport control systems. Travellers heading abroad are being warned to expect longer-than-usual wait times as authorities work to resolve the technical fault.
Police have assured the public that IT specialists are actively working on restoring system functionality, but until the problem is resolved, delays will likely persist.
What travellers should do
Hungarian police are urging travellers to check the latest updates on border crossing opening hours and current wait times before departing for the border or the airport. This information is available on the Border Info (Határinfó) section of the police website and via the RUTIN mobile application, Hungary’s official traffic and travel information platform.
Authorities have thanked travellers for their patience and cooperation during the ongoing issue.
