Important transport changes coming to Hungary’s most popular holiday destination

From Saturday, the MÁV-Volán group’s summer peak season timetable will come into force, which means more frequent services to Lake Balaton, which is great news for holidaymakers.

Important changes

As passengers have become accustomed in recent years, MÁV-Volán’s summer timetable is coming this year. So, in addition to the services between Balaton and Budapest, direct trains from the counties of Eastern and South-Eastern Hungary to Lake Balaton will be available from the first weekend of the holiday season.

MÁV wants to make travelling as comfortable and fast as possible for passengers. This year, the number of comfort features will be further expanded. The number of air-conditioned InterCity coaches used in the Balaton service has increased, and more modern FLIRT and KISS motor trains are now in service. In addition, on-board services of the 75-year-old Passenger Service will be available on trains to the south and north coast.

Not only trains but also buses are changing

Volánbus is also introducing a new timetable in several regions of the country, including the Lake Balaton area, naphíre.hu reports. In both cases, it is important to buy your tickets in advance due to the increased passenger traffic.

From 1 July, country tickets will also be available for second-class travel on InterCity or other local trains. With the new fare product, MÁV offers more passengers a cheap and easy way to travel than ever before.

The new timetable will be valid until 27 August, after which a post-season timetable will be available until the end of September.
