Hungary swimming sensation Katinka Hosszu looks game for Moscow encore in Dubai

Dubai – Hungarian swimming sensation Katinka Hosszu lived up to expectations on Thursday morning, qualifying first for the finals in all but one of the five events she contested on the first day of the Fina Swimming World Cup.

Hosszu again showed her versatility, dominating the 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 200m IM, before being touched out in the 200m backstroke by Ukrainian backstroke specialist Daryna Zevina, where she qualified second.

“I’m feeling really good, better than I did in Moscow. I came into Moscow straight off training so I feel more rested now, even though it’s tough racing back to back,” said Hosszu.

Hosszu has an incredibly demanding programme, swimming nine events over the two days, and while she is in great form she will face some tough competition. In the 200m freestyle final, Hosszu will be up against the Spanish duo of World and Olympic silver medallist Mireia Belmonte Garcia and World Champion 400m (short course) Melanie Costa, along with Olympic gold medallist (400m freestyle) Camille Muffat of France. Also lining up is multiple World and Olympic gold medallist in the freestyle relay, Femke Heemskerk of the Netherlands.
