Hungary population decline slows in Jan-May

(MTI) – Hungary’s population declined slowed with more births and fewer deaths in the first five months of the year than during the same period in 2013, figures released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Tuesday showed.
The number of births went up by an annual 2.9 percent to 35,525 in January-May and deaths dropped by 2.2 percent, KSH said.
The pace of Hungary’s natural population decline slowed from 0.49 percent to 0.44 percent in January-May from the same period in 2013, KSH said.
The number of marriages went up by an annual 9.9 percent to 11,497 during the period.
