Hungary unveils modern EUR 2.5 million workers’ hostel to boost local employment – PHOTOS

A new workers’ hostel with 46 apartments was built in Nyírbátor, Hungary, with an investment of nearly HUF 1 billion (EUR 2,5 million). The opening ceremony took place on Thursday in the small town of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county.
At the event, Sándor Czomba, Secretary of State for Employment Policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), recalled that since 2017, the Hungarian government has issued calls for tenders to establish workers’ hostels seven times. The aim of these initiatives is to alleviate mobility issues in the labour market.

“It is preferable to bring jobs to where there is a large available workforce, so every such investment is very important to us,” the secretary of state emphasised.

Czomba also pointed out that today’s accommodations are no longer mass dormitories but offer cultured living conditions that help workers—whether “blue-collar or white-collar”—to truly rest and recuperate.
Miklós Simon, Fidesz Member of Parliament for the region, highlighted that over the past fifteen years, 62 programs have brought HUF 44 billion (EUR 110 million) in benefits to the people of Nyírbátor. A quarter of this funding was directly for job creation and appeared as support for companies.
Regarding future development plans, the representative said preparations are underway for the construction of a bypass ring road around Nyírbátor. This road, which will ease traffic in the town, is expected to be a project worth HUF 20 to 30 billion (EUR 50 to 75 million), with construction set to begin in the next government cycle.
At the ceremony, Antal Máté, mayor of Nyírbátor, announced that the Hungarian state provided approximately HUF 500 million (EUR 1.25 million) toward the construction of the workers’ hostel, with the remainder financed by the town itself.
The building, constructed on the outskirts of the town at a cost of HUF 976 million (EUR 2.44 million), includes 46 fully equipped apartments designed for two to three residents each.
