Hungary creates transit zone in Letenye on Croatian border

Budapest, September 24 (MTI) – The Hungarian authorities have created a transit zone for migrants which serves as a registration point in Letenye on the Hungary-Croatia border.

Local officials on Thursday inspected the facility and a razor wire being laid on the border. The immigration authority is setting up containers for registering migrants.

Zalaegerszeg Labour and Administrative Court has been designated as the court for proceedings in Zala and Somogy counties concerning any border violations.

Zala County government commissioner Csaba Rigo told a press conference that laying the razor wire is required where the River Mura does not offer sufficient border protection. Where privately owned land is affected, the owners will get compensation payments for the use of a 10-metre wide strip of land. The reactions by owners has been overwhelmingly positive so far, he added.

Work has also started along the Hungarian-Slovenian border because the Croatian border is close by, he said.

MP of the ruling Fidesz party for Zala County Laszlo Vigh told the press conference that once the razor wire is in place, a second fence will be built.
