Hungarian state secretary celebrates 35 years of key diaspora group in Czechia

Successful nation-building is achieved only by involving all members of the nation, Lőrinc Nacsa, state secretary for nation policy at the Prime Minister’s Office, said at a ceremony held in Prague on Saturday to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Hungarians in Czechia (CSMMSZ).

Nacsa said that wherever Hungarians live in the world, it was important that vibrant communities should exist, in which they could nurture their mother tongue, traditions and national identity. Thanks to CSMMSZ, he added, these values were nurtured in Czechia.

The state secretary praised the association’s work and wished the organisation and Hungarians in the Czech Republic every success on behalf of the Hungarian government, adding that they could count on the government’s support.

András Baranyi, Hungary’s ambassador to Prague, and Hajnal Kassai, director of the Liszt Institute in Prague, attended the ceremonial meeting. The CSMMSZ, founded in 1990, is the largest and most influential Hungarian organisation in the Czech Republic, with around 11,000 members.
