Hungary, Armenia embarking on new era in diplomatic ties

Hungary and Armenia are set to enter a new chapter in their diplomatic relations by opening embassies in each other’s capitals, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Monday.

According to a ministry statement, Szijjártó said on Facebook that the two countries are poised to advance their economic cooperation after Armenia’s parliament recently ratified a bilateral economic cooperation agreement.

“I have congratulated my Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, on Armania and Azerbaijan’s arrival at an important milestone in their peace talks by finalising the text of their peace treaty,” Szijjártó said.

“There is, of course, a long way to go until an agreement on lasting peace is reached, but this progress can serve as encouragement to those working to resolve other conflicts,” he added.

It was a year ago when it was announced that an Armenian embassy would open in Budapest, but no progress was made. However, Wizz Air has indeed launched a service to Yerevan, details HERE.

As we wrote a week ago, the foreign minister said the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, “one of many conflicts in the world apart from the war in Ukraine,” could “come to a still point” with a recent deal between the two countries. Details are HERE.
