Hungarian word of the day!

Among others, the Hungarian language is known for having some peculiar words that uniquely stand out in the European continent. When illustrated with a map, it becomes apparent that we stand alone in the centre of Europe with some of our “weird” words. We have already presented this oddity through wine, beer and police, and now we bring another creative etymology map from Imgur to teach you the word church in Hungarian.

As you can see, the little blue spot in the middle of the map is Hungary. Templom comes from the Latin “templum”, which stands for “shrine, temple, area for auspices”.
