Hungarian state railways and government pleased: “Only” 2,800 trains delayed in the past three weeks

Shocking figures have been revealed regarding the operations of Hungarian State Railways (MÁV): 2,800 trains were delayed over the past three weeks, and MÁV was required to pay a record-high amount in compensation to passengers.

According to 24.hu, MÁV informed the Hungarian press that it had reimbursed HUF 90 million to passengers due to the delays. This amount represents the refund of approximately 135,000 tickets. Meanwhile, revenue exceeded HUF 7 billion, meaning the company allocated less than 1% of its income to compensation.

According to the railway company, 2,800 trains were delayed by more than 20 minutes, accounting for 3% of all services.

Construction and Transport Minister János Lázár stated last week that, despite low prices for passes and tickets, revenues remained high and the number of delays had decreased.
