Wealthiest Hungarian’s bank to pay compensation for Google-fraud-type phishing attack victims

MBH Bank on Thursday said it will pay compensation equaling 70pc of the damages to customers who fell victim to a Google-fraud-type phishing attack between March 15 and May 31, 2025, even though the problem was not the vulnerability of banking systems, but sensitive personal and banking data obtained from bank clients and fake banking pages advertised in Google search.

In line with the National Bank of Hungary‘s recently announced directive and international practice, compensation will be available to those who have fallen victim to fraud for the first time, MBH said. The bank will contact the customers concerned by the end of August, it said.
