Hungarian government earmarks EUR 2.8m for e-bike support
Hungary’s government will call a tender in October for 1 billion forints (EUR 2.8m) in support for the purchase of bicycles with auxiliary electric motors, state secretary for energy and climate policy PĂ©ter Kaderják announced on Tuesday.
Subsidies covering as much as half of purchase cost, up to 90,000 forints for e-bikes with cadence sensors and up to 150,000 for e-bikes with torque sensors, will be available to private individuals, Kaderják said.
Because the subsidies are intended to support commuters who will use their e-bikes to get to work, applicants must submit proof of employment, he added.
The price of the subsidised e-bikes will be capped at 900,000 forints.
Máriusz Révész, government commissioner for an active Hungary, said the 1 billion allocation will support the purchase of more than 7,000 e-bikes.
