Hungarian Ball organized in Switzerland’s Zurich – PHOTOS

Hungarian communities living in the remoter diaspora can count on the Hungarian government, Lőrinc Nacsa, the state secretary for Hungarian communities abroad, said in a statement made prior to the commencement of the Hungarian Ball in Zurich on Saturday.
He noted the presence of a 50,000-60,000-strong Hungarian community in Switzerland, adding that the government planned programmes to help the diaspora this year too, such as the scheme to lay on visits to the country for large numbers of Hungarian young people living across the border.

The state secretary noted that weekend Hungarian schools operate in Switzerland too, adding that there are 260 such schools in the diaspora worldwide. Hungary plans another meeting of weekend schools this year, he said. Switzerland, he said, was a central arena of the western European diaspora, though it was hard for Hungarians in western Europe because “the liberal press tells countless untruths about Hungary”.

Nacsa met leaders of the Hungarian community in Switzerland, who he said were working hard to preserve the identity of Hungarians and to nurture the nation’s culture and traditions. The statement said he will meet Swiss politicians at the ball to discuss common European issues, “peace above all”.

The Hungarian Ball is organized yearly by the MagyarHáz (Hungarian House) Foundation.
