Higher education revamp ‘unmatched success’, Hungarian government believes

Hungarian universities are improving year in year out thanks to the revamp of the higher education system, a government official said on Tuesday in response to a critical article in the press.
The changes have brought about “unprecedented success”, Veronika Varga-Bajusz, the state secretary for higher education, vocational and adult training of the culture and innovation ministry, said in a post on Facebook, referring to “criticism that comes out of thin air”.
“But let’s stick to the facts,” she said, responding to the article in the daily Népszava, noting that 95,907 students secured places in Hungarian universities and 8 out of 10 won state scholarships, which she said were the best figures in the past decade and a half.

Also, in September 7,324 people will start training to become a teacher, she added. Meanwhile, the number of teachers of biology, physics, chemistry, geography, mathematics and natural sciences has increased 2.5 times compared to 2022, the state secretary said.
