One of the wealthiest Hungarians, head of 4iG apppointed Hungary’s ambassador following Maldives holiday with Sára Orbán

Gellért Jászai, the chairman of listed ICT company 4iG, has been appointed Hungary’s ambassador for developing international business ties, a resolution by the president published in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows.

Jászai has been tasked with seeking new investment opportunities, fostering international business ties and drafting agreements. His work will be overseen by the minister of foreign affairs and trade. Jászai will remain at the helm of 4iG group.

The prime minister’s daughter was on a Maldives holiday with Mr Jászai

Jászai became one of the wealthiest Hungarians in the last 15 years thanks to the many public procurements he won. In 2024, Forbes estimated his wealth to be almost EUR 335 million. 444, a Hungarian media outlet, wrote yesterday that Jászai was seen with PM Orbán’s second daughter, Sára Orbán, and her husband, Tamás Szokira and their families disembarking a private jet owned by OTP Bank. They were in the Maldives together, and OTP said they rented the jet on regular market conditions.

Based on the information of 444, they were on holiday on the Velaa Private Island, an ultra-luxury private island owned by a Czech billionaire, Jiri Smejc. Based on the calculations done by 444, such travels may cost tens of millions of forints. Sára Orbán’s company, Art Related Solutions Ltd, did not answer the questions of the Hungarian media outlet.

Jászai’s appointment means he would acquire a diplomatic passport. He accompanied PM Orbán last December, meeting with Donald Trump and Elon Musk in Florida. Musk and Jászai discussed their plans for the space industry.
