Good news for tourists: Popular Gyula Castle Baths to be renewed

The Gyula Castle Baths has launched a renovation project with support from the Hungarian Tourism Agency.
The Gyula Castle Baths was earlier awarded HUF 3.2bn in funding from the agency to cover 90pc of project costs. The spa has since upgraded its offering for children and expanded its main building with more services at a cost of around HUF 2bn. Originally, the spa had planned to add a another wellness area, but inflation made the addition impractical and a decision was taken to renovate a former stable that was long ago converted into a pool area, Gyula Castle Baths director Miklos Kun said.

The stable area will re-open to the public at the end of October. Last year, 598,000 visitors came to the baths. This year, management anticipates an 8pc decline because of the renovation work.
