Government allocates up to EUR 3.2m for rehabilitating Jewish cemeteries

Budapest, April 14 (MTI) – The government has allocated 800 million to 1 billion forints (EUR 3.2m) for the first year of its programme of rehabilitating derelict Jewish cemeteries, the head of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary (Mazsihisz) said on Thursday.
András Heisler told public news channel M1 that while the scheme was “attractive”, so many of Hungary’s Jewish cemeteries needed rehabilitating that the funds would not be enough to cover all of them.
“We believe it would be a big step forward if we could carry out this project and we’re hoping we can continue on with it,” Heisler said.
