Foreign minister discusses protection of Christian communities with EU special envoy

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó discussed the protection of Christian communities with Jan Figel, the EU’s special envoy for the promotion of freedom of religion, in Budapest on Friday.
The two sides were in agreement that Christian communities are exposed to serious threats in several parts of the world, the ministry said in a statement.
Szijjártó told Figel that Hungary considers it a duty to help Christian communities in trouble and has set up a state secretariat for the purpose.
Keeping in view that help must be offered where trouble is experienced, the Hungarian government is helping the persecuted Christian communities in the Middle East and Africa in order to enable them to stay there and gain strength, he said.
