New direct flights from Hungary to the Turkish and Albanian Riviera

How many kilometres is Antalya in Turkey from us? The question is only seemingly simple, because depending on where you are travelling from and how you are travelling, the end result will be different.
If you drive from the capital to Antalya, for example, you’re in for a tough one-day journey. That is the time needed to cover the 2051 km. If you take a plane, you can be at your destination in just over two hours, as the resort is only 1519 km away as the crow flies. However, the maths doesn’t work out for those departing from Debrecen, as you have to factor in the extra 240 km or so to get to Liszt Ferenc Airport. So far, at least.
Last year, around 12% of ITAKA passengers travelling to Turkey and the Albanian coast came from the Eastern Hungary region. Antalya and the Albanian regions of Durres and Golem are mostly chosen by families, so it is understandable that they have difficulties in making the Budapest detour. That’s why the fact that Debrecen has its own airport…
Budapest – Debrecen – Turkish Riviera
As the Turkish Riviera is becoming more and more popular, the travel agency will increase the number of charter flights to this destination from summer 2025. Three direct flights a week (Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday) will depart from Budapest to Turkey, while thanks to the flight consolidation, a flight will take off from Debrecen once a week (on Sundays) to Antalya. This will allow people living in or near Hajdúság to tailor the starting point of their trip even more to their own needs.
Just for the record, the region, also known as Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, is the perfect place for all visitors to enjoy its historical and cultural attractions, its inimitable gastronomy, its stunning natural beauty and its hotels.
Landing in the birthplace of Mother Teresa
The world is changing and so are our travel habits. In addition to popular, well-visited resorts, there is a growing interest in destinations that have been less popular but offer many exciting attractions.
For those who have been back and forth between Croatia, Slovenia and Greece and are looking for something new, the Albanian Riviera, Durres and Golem, with 40 kilometres of crystal clear beaches surrounded by mountains, are the place to go. If you’ve had your fill on the beaches or in the more intimate coves, you can take a trip to the 1010-hectare Llogara National Park or visit the area’s most famous Orthodox churches. And if you’re tired of all the sightseeing, the area’s many reasonably priced restaurants and ice-cream parlours are a great place to sit and chat.
Albania is the unknown familiar
Surveys show that more and more people are choosing exotic holiday destinations that are not mainstream destinations. In Europe, Albania is one of these white spots to be discovered. For those travelling by plane, getting to Tirana will be even easier this summer, with two direct charter flights a week from Budapest (Mondays and Thursdays) and one from Debrecen (Mondays) to Albania’s capital, only to land at the airport 20 km from the capital (named after Mother Teresa, who is of Albanian origin) after the 90-minute flight. The thermometer outside now reads just above freezing, so it’s the perfect time to plan your Mediterranean holiday to Turkey or Albania.
